Styrene acrylic copolymer

Scott Bader Co. Ltd. (Wollaston, U.K.) has developed Texicryl 13-600, a new styrene acrylic copolymer designed for use in high-performance anticorrosion applications, particularly in automotive underhood environments. The product is alkyl phenol ethoxylate-free and, according to the manufacturer, is possibly the first water-based primer of its type to achieve a 500-hours salt spray resistance standard, based on a 50-micron, single-coat dry film thickness on steel. The material also is resistant to discoloration in high-humidity environments and, because it is acrylic-based, can withstand high temperatures. It reportedly offers good resistance to impact and the damaging effects of contact with fuels, brake fluid and coolants. Compatibility with industrial chemical and atmospheric conditions also makes the product suitable for use in bridge and construction applications as well as static engine and mobile plant accessories.
