“Green” resin solvent

By Staff | March 2008

Applied Chemical Laboratories Inc. (Sunnyvale, Calif.) has developed what it says is an environmentally friendly cleaning solvent for epoxy and polyester resins. Brand-named ACL-23 EpoxSol, it is designed to clean and remove cured resins without gumming or drying. This solvent is derived from a technology first used to clean microelectronic components. It is said to be virtually odorless and contains no acetone, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) or methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK). It can be used in spray or immersion-tank applications and can be applied at temperatures ranging from 23°C/73°F to 80°C/176°F to remove thick, crosslinked epoxy or polyester resins. The product reportedly is noncorrosive and fully compatible with aluminum, aluminum alloys, stainless steel, and other metals. The solvent is available in 5-gal pails, 55-gal drums, 330-gal totes and intermediate bulk containers.
