Nanocomposite for rapid prototyping

By Staff | March 2008

3D Systems Corp. (Rock Hill, S.C.) has introduced Accura Greystone Material, a nanocomposite material developed for use with the manufacturer’s stereolithography (SLA) rapid pro-totyping and rapid manufacturing systems. Designed for motorsport and aerospace applications, the material reportedly delivers sufficient accuracy, stiffness, thermal performance and long-term stability for use in these arenas. The grey-colored nanocomposite material was developed for rigorous, high-pressure wind-tunnel testing, under-the-hood automotive applications and other uses that require high thermal resistance, insulative properties and accurate and stable jigs and fixtures. It is said to resist high temperatures and is intended for tooling and other demanding applications. The material joins others in the company’s Accura series, which was developed to help rapid prototyping technology make a successful transition to true additive manufacturing, in which parts built with SA systems can be used as finished parts in low-quantity production.
