AGC Chemicals Americas Inc. (AGCCA, Exton, Pa., U.S.) has announced the expansion of its Thorndale, Pa, U.S., production facility, adding up to 50% more manufacturing, quality control lab and office space. The multiuse facility will be configured to meet the growing needs of current business and accommodate future production increases and new capabilities.

In 2021, AGC Japan (Chiyoda-ku) established the Global Compounds business unit, headquartered in Exton to manage customer needs over multiple markets in various geographical regions that the Thorndale site services. The plant was recently designed for expansion and execution of its business continuity plan because of its strong technical capabilities in compounding fluoropolymer resins ideal for composites applications, says AGCCA, as well as its large presence in the transportation, aerospace, energy, industrial, semiconductor and coatings markets. Construction began in December 2021 with a target completion date of July 2023.

“Local government supports this expansion because it will use regional and local construction resources,” says Michael Lim, senior director of manufacturing technology and operations for AGCCA. “This expanded presence demonstrates our continued investment in the local community.”

AGCCA manufactures, markets and sells fluoroproducts including Fluon  fluoropolymer resins, Fluon+ enhanced fluorinated materials and compounds and AFLAS fluoroelastomers. It also markets and sells specialty chemicals including AsahiKlin fluorinated solvents, Lumiflon Feve resins, AsahiGuard E-Series water and oil repellants, Solesphere fine silica additives, polyols for polyurethanes, Cytop amorphous fluoropolymers and various fluoro-intermediates for pharmaceutical and agricultural products. The company also offers specialty materials Forblue ion exchange membranes, Fluon ETFE film and F-Clean greenhouse films.
