For 2022, The Native Lab (TNL, Madrid, Spain) is planning to launch a couple of new courses alongside new editions of its Composite Materials and Monocoque Design courses. Finite Element Analysis (FEA), which begins Feb. 23, 2022, is a new, seven-week instructor-led course that will be taught online and live to enable questions, interaction with the trainer and discussions. Classes will take place from 18:00 p.m. to 19:30 p.m. CET (12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. EST) on Wednesdays. All classes will be recorded in case someone cannot join and/or wants to go through the session again.

The course will have a specific focus on structures built with composites, though other materials will also be taken into account. The main aim of the course is to provide stress engineers with a deeper understanding of structural mechanics and numerical methods. Participants will understand how FE works behind the scenes, learn the SSS Method for analyzing vehicle structures, be able to select the most suitable material model depending on ECHA case study and understand the difference between explicit and implicit approaches and confidently choose among them.

The class syllabus will then be structured accordingly:

  • Class 1: Theoretical background of FEA
  • Class 2: Introduction to simplified structural surfaces
  • Class 3: Material model selection
  • Class 4: Monocoque modeling
  • Class 5: Monocoque analyses
  • Class 6: Impact dynamis (explicit modeling)
  • Class 7: Recap and Q&A

All classes will be taught by Ignacio Carranza, now CAE manager at Managing Composites (Madrid, Spain). Carranza was previously a research engineer at McLaren Automotive (Woking, U.K.) and stress engineer at Hyundai Motorsports (Alzenau, Germany) where he focused on FEA and material characterization for simulation. He also has been granted an Engineering Doctorate in micro and nanomaterials and technologies.

All participants will have access to all the materials for a period of one year, will receive a certificate of successful completion and will be part of an ever-growing alumni community. The course fee is €249.
