The European Alliance for SMC BMC, a European association operating under the umbrella of EuCIA (Brussels, Belgium) has launched the second of a series of design guides which were created to explain to designers how versatile materials like sheet molding compound (BMC) and bulk molding compound (BMC) can be used and converted into parts in larger production series. This particular design guide will cover how to achieve the highest quality finish when painting SMC parts and help readers discover how state-of-the-art coating technologies can deliver significant cost savings over conventional processes (more about the first design guide).

In this guide, the association says it shows manufacturers how selecting the right SMC formulation and following best practice design, manufacturing and finishing procedures can lead to a painted SMC surface that matches, or potentially exceeds, that of a painted metal surface. The European Alliance for SMC BMC adds that it will cover the latest in-mold coating technologies that, compared to conventional spray processes, can reduce overall costs.

The design guide can be downloaded here.
