Greenboats GmbH (Bremen, Germany), sustainable composite solutions company, announces that flax fiber producer Groupe Depestele (Normandy, France) has acquired a minority share in the company. This decision strengthens the existing collaboration between the two companies and enables Greenboats to build the technology and infrastructure needed for natural fiber composites (NFCs) to become a viable option for the industry’s growing sustainable, lightweight component demands.

Groupe Depestele has been a key private flax producer in Europe since 1850. The company manages around 13,000 hectares of flax land. From cultivation to product creation, Group Depestele ensures quality and sustainability, evidenced by its European Flax certification which meets EU environmental and social standards.

“We’re at a pivotal juncture in the evolution of NFCs as a new product category,” Jan Paul Schirmer, managing director of Greenboats, notes. “Our clients believe in our technology but demand a more reliable and scalable supply chain. Our partnership with Groupe Depestele is based on respect and a mutual vision. Their investment is a strong vote of confidence in what we can achieve together. We couldn’t have hoped for a more fitting partner. ”

Valentin Depestele, director of Groupe Depestele, delivers similar sentiments, noting that the additional collaboration enhances their “shared vision to redefine the applications of sustainable composites on a global scale.”
