Composites engineering firm Cecence (Hampshire, U.K.), recent winner of a 2019 JEC Innovation Award, announces that it is investing in end-to-end composites processing and manufacturing machinery for its facility, through Birmingham's Rail Supply Growth Fund.

Earlier this year, Cecence expanded the footprint of its facility to 24,000 square feet comprising three units. As part of its growth strategy, Cecence is investing in delivery of a further £300,000 ($365,488) of new machinery, including a five-axis CNC machining center, a 3-meter by 1.5-meter (10-foot by 5-foot) flatbed twin daylight heated upstroking press, a 2.5-meter by 1.25-meter (8-foot by 4-foot) three-axis CNC table router, a prepreg machine and an autoclave.

The company says that the new equipment will enable it to compete for larger contracts and also increase production capacity, creating more local jobs in addition to the current team of 23 employees.

“Clients increasingly are looking for a facility that can provide cutting and trimming in-house, and with the new equipment being commissioned over the next few months, Cecence will be able to offer an increased end-to-end service to their customers with reliance on subcontractors reduced to almost zero,” says Humphrey Bunyan, founder and director of Cecence.

Future growth plans are said to include the development of production lines in collaboration with other composites companies, with a focus on sustainability in materials and in the supply chain.
