National Composites (Troy, Mich., U.S.) a multiplant OEM supplier of custom molded fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP), thermoformed plastic and full metal cab fabrications and assembly, has announced a strategic partnership with North American compression moldmaker Laval.
The announcement marks a significant step in National Composites’ continuous pursuit of growth and innovation, particularly in the sheet molding compound (SMC) and bulk molding compound (BMC) domain, but also the company’s steel and aluminum tooling capabilities. Under this partnership, Laval will focus on the SMC/BMC molding process, while National Composites will enhance the end product with its value-added services such as advanced Class A painting and final assembly, ensuring a comprehensive solution from initial design to final delivery.
Laval, founded by tool and mold entrepreneur Larry Azzopardi, and now operated by his son, Jonathan Azzopardi, brings to the table decades of experience in designing and building complex compression molds, with a clientele that spans military, government and various commercial sectors. This collaboration with National Composites combines Laval’s prowess in tooling with National Composites’ expertise in FRP molding methods, metal and composite product design, and full assembly solutions.
National Composites operates more than 600,000 square feet of production space across six plants in three states, offering a blend of small-scale engagement with the resources of a large organization. The partnership with Laval enhances this model, ensuring that customers benefit from advanced support from the design and prototype stage to full-scale production, regardless of the project scale.
