A novel CNC system for machining composites designed and built by Bertsche Engineering Corp. features a fully enclosed machining compartment with an integral modular automatic fixturing system for parts machining. A high-volume composite dust extraction system ensures maximum extraction within the work area. The machine is said to be highly rigid, with high feed forces, acceleration and a thermally stable bed for long life in demanding environments.
The solution is available in three-, four- and five-axis configurations. Standard travels X=7m, Y=1m and Z=1.1m are possible. Automatic, patent-pending lockdown fixtures make for seamless part loading of two different families of parts on either side of the fourth-axis tombstone. Alternate options are available, including a standalone T-Slot table, rotary A-axis for long cylindrical parts and custom fixture design including vacuum fixturing.
