The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Automotive Composites Conference & Expo (ACCE, Troy, Mich., U.S.) is now calling for papers, sponsors and exhibitors for its 24th event, taking place Sept. 4-6, 2024 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan.

This year’s theme, “Composites: The future of transportation — mobility and beyond,” is further highlighted through the categories organized for papers and presentations below:

  • Composites in Electric Vehicles;
  • Advances in Thermoplastic Composites;
  • Advances in Thermoset Composites;
  • Additive Manufacturing and 3D Printing;
  • Enabling Technologies;
  • Sustainable Composites;
  • Bonding, Joining and Finishing;
  • Carbon Composites and Reinforcements;
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Data-Driven Solutions; and
  • Design, Modeling and Simulation of Composites.

Those that are interested in presenting are encouraged to send titles and/or topics ASAP to intuitgroup@gmail.com. The official portal for abstract submissions will be available early February. Abstracts are due April 26, 2024 and final papers are due June 28, 2024.

The 2024 ACCE technical program will also include technical presentations on current and future industry advances. Before acceptance for a podium presentation, authors must submit either an archival scientific paper conforming to the conference guidelines or a technical presentation ready for archival. Archival papers or presentations are due June 28, 2024.

Authors who submit scientific papers will be considered for the conference’s Best Paper Awards, which are presented during the event’s opening ceremony and announced through multiple outlets within the SPE. A template for papers can be downloaded from the SPE ACCE website online.  Inquiries about submitting abstracts, scientific papers and technical presentations can also be sent to intuitgroup@gmail.com.

More information regarding sponsoring or exhibiting is available at the SPE ACCE website.

“Composites are essential for electric and autonomous vehicles and advancements in all mobility applications,” says Dr. David Jack, professor of mechanical engineering at Baylor University and returning ACCE 2024 co-chair. “Composites are unique in that they are lightweight and structurally sound, while providing design freedom and sustainability benefits for vehicles today and into the future.”

Not only this, but composites are considered paramount for the transition to e-mobility — whether on the road or in the air. “The future of transportation must include sustainable solutions, so this will continue to be addressed as a major feature in the ACCE programming,” notes Dr. Mehdi Tajvidi, associate professor of renewable nanomaterials at the University of Maine and returning ACCE 2024 technical program co-chair.

Moreover, as advancements in modeling and simulation benefit the industry through the streamlining of materials, manufacturing and load requirements, event organizers have added “AI (Artificial Intelligence), ML (Machine Learning) and Data-Driven Solutions” as a new session in order to highlight the rapidly growing technology.

Every year, SPE ACCE features technical sessions, panel discussions, keynotes and exhibits highlighting advances in materials, processes and equipment for thermoset and thermoplastic composites in a wide variety of transportation applications. Networking breakfasts, lunches and receptions enhance the value of the event.
