Aeler Technologies SA (Lausanne, Switzerland), an EPFL university startup and LogTech company, has concluded an agreement for commercial representation in the Portuguese market and Cape Verde Islands with Navex, a Portuguese shipping agent part of Grupo ETE, for its Unit One glass fiber shipping container. The smart container was unveiled at a joint event in Porto, Portugal.
“We are excited to embark on this journey with a partner like Navex,” Naik Londono, co-founder and co-CEO, Aeler Technologies, says. “This collaboration marks an exciting milestone for Aeler.”
João Silva, executive director, Navex, Grupo ETE notes that Aeler’s smart, new-generation container delivers significant innovation and “will help make the maritime industry more efficient, sustainable and competitive.”
Aeler is said to be reinventing the shipping container and the service that goes around it. Strong, insulated and smart, the Aeler Unit One container is capable of transporting more cargo, reducing maritime transport emissions by 20% and fuel consumption by 4% and incorporates embedded sensors for tracking and monitoring. Specifically:
- A 17% higher payload makes it possible to load 28-ton flexitanks instead of 24-ton tanks. No bulging is thanks to the increased strength provided by the container’s composite walls.
- Temperature variation is significantly reduced thanks to the container’s structural insulation. This cuts fitting time and costs, offers a viable alternative to reefers for specific use cases and makes the containers ideal for sensitive goods.
- Proprietary IoT creates visibility with a special emphasis on security for all key stakeholders. Via a Control Tower, Aeler is able to see where and “how” the container and its cargo are at all times (e.g., door openings and shocks are detected).
