3M (St. Paul, Minn., U.S.) announces its next generation of the 3M Scotch-Weld Structural Acrylic Adhesives portfolio, which includes the following new products: 3M Scotch-Weld Low Odor Acrylic Adhesive 8700NS Series, 3M Scotch-Weld Flexible Acrylic Adhesive 8600NS Series and 3M Scotch-Weld Nylon Bonder Structural Adhesive DP8910NS.

Structural acrylic adhesives are able to cure quickly with limited surface preparation and bond to a variety of substrates, while also offering high temperature and high impact resistance. 3M’s portfolio offers advanced formulations that reportedly alleviate existing assembly challenges and are engineered specifically to allow for greater design flexibility.

The expanded portfolio of products includes the following:

  • 3M Scotch-Weld Low Odor Acrylic Adhesive 8700NS Series: Improved acrylic formulation maintains structural strength in cold temperatures, is low odor and has non-flammable classification to enhance workplace safety. 3M says it also provides a high-strength solution to replace mechanical fasteners, while having the ability to bond to a wide variety of substrates including plastics, aluminum, stainless steel and active metals.
  • 3M Scotch-Weld Flexible Acrylic Adhesive 8600NS Series: A new acrylic adhesive that provides the flexibility of a sealant combined with the strength and cure speed of an acrylic adhesive. It also allows thin, flat surfaces to be bonded with limited surface distortion or bond line read-through. This new acrylic is also low odor and has non-flammable classification to enhance workplace safety.
  • 3M Scotch-Weld Nylon Bonder Structural Adhesive DP8910NS: The third new acrylic in this series ensures reliable adhesion to nylon (polyamides) substrates without plasma or flame treatment surface preparation, which helps reduce costs and production time. The Nylon Bonder Structural Adhesive also offers excellent adhesion in high-temperature and high-humidity environments and provides designers with more options by featuring the ability to bond to different metals, such as aluminum and stainless steel.
