PRF Composite Materials (Poole, Dorset, U.K.) announces the launch of RP570 FR Reepreg, a fire-retardant prepreg material developed for aircraft interior components. The recycled carbon fiber (rCF) nonwoven mat combines Reepreg’s handleability with PRF’s eXpress cure technology, offering a complete processing time of 5 minutes at 160°C. RP570 FR Reepreg improves circularity and is highly suited to high-volume manufacturing (HVM).

“RP570 FR Reepreg has been developed specifically with lightweighting in mind, looking at enabling recycled composite materials to be used in aircraft interior programs and other applications requiring FST properties and HVM,” says Robert Burnell, CEO and head of product development at PRF. “Through significant investment in R&D, we have developed a special methodology of impregnation to ensure that once prepregged, Reepreg is easy to handle and press from a flat sheet into a 3D shape. The development of 400gsm Reepreg also enables thickness to be built up very quickly, thereby reducing cost in these applications.”

Now in manufacture, the company says that RP570 FR Reepreg offers a significant opportunity for composite component constructors, providing a way toward the industry objective for material recovery, regeneration and reuse.
