ESRD to Develop Advanced Simulation Tools

New evaluations tools are intended to improve the composites certification process.

ESRD, (St. Louis, Mo.) a provider of FEA software and services, has been awarded a $1.4M Navy contract to develop and validate CAE tools for the simulation of large airframe components made of fiber-reinforced composites.

These tools will incorporate new failure theories to predict the strength and structural response of composite structure in the presence of propagating delaminations. New approaches to the problem, such as multi-scale adaptive modeling, will be developed to ease the composites-component certification process.

StressCheck, a software tool developed by ESRD, will be used in the project. The goal is to reduce life cycle costs for new and existing naval aircraft and to accelerate the design-to-deployment schedule, according to Barna Szabo, ESRD'sPresident & CEO. Information www.esrd.com
