POLYCON 2005 preview
The world's largest cast polymer tradeshow stays in tune with the future in Music City.
More than 800 cast polymer industry professionals are expected to travel to the nation's County Music Capital, Nashville, Tenn., for POLYCON 2005, the convention and trade exhibition sponsored annually by the International Cast Polymer Alliance (ICPA) of the American Composites Manufacturers Assn. (ACMA).
At ICPA's General Session on Friday, Feb. 18, Dr. Stan DuBois will summarize current analyses of the U.S. economy and its potential effects on the housing market, in his "U.S. Housing Forecast." Special attention will be paid to the Federal Reserve board's intention to stave off the threat of inflation by returning interest rates to levels more consistent with a growing economy. He will address questions about that policy's effect: Will the Fed's attempt to stay "one step ahead" of inflation backfire, pushing the economy back into recession? Will rising interest rates merely "cool" the hot housing market or will they burst the current "price bubble" resulting from sometimes double-digit yearly increases in new home pricing?
ICPA also will honor outstanding performances in the cast polymer industry, recognizing innovative products and ideas developed by an outstanding manufacturer, supplier and ICPA region. The Pinnacle Award winners in each category will be announced and honored during the General Session.
ICPA will host a New Member/First Time Attendee Orientation and Breakfast on Thursday, Feb. 17. This annual event will acquaint first-timers with ICPA's leadership team as well as organizational opportunities and benefits.
In keeping with the show theme, "Staying in Tune with the Future," ICPA has assembled 31 educational presentations divided into six tracks, under the headings Gel Coat Manufacturing, General Manufacturing, Solid Surface, Business, Sales & Marketing, and Regulatory. Each track will provide multiple sessions at a variety of times through the two-day program. The tracks converge on Friday afternoon with an Ask the Experts session, open to all, at which attendees may pose questions to a panel assembled from the industry's most experienced professionals.
At the Supplier New Product Review, on Thursday morning, more than a dozen exhibitors are already slated to provide "sneak peek" commercial overviews of new and improved equipment, products and services offered to the cast polymer market, prior to the opening of the exhibit hall.
The show floor will be open from Noon until 5:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday. Events on the floor will include a visitor reception and a luncheon designed to afford attendees a wealth of networking opportunities with an anticipated 70 exhibiting suppliers.
On Friday evening, ICPA visitors and guests also may take advantage of a formal reception at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel, followed by an evening at the Grand Ole Opry, the legendary music hall that has become the live-performance pinnacle for Country musicians.
For more information about the show and educational opportunities, visit the ICPA Web site: www.icpa-hq.org.
