Carbon fiber textiles producer Sigmatex (Runcorn, Chesire, U.K.) has completed a significant phase of investment in its Carbon Textile Solutions (CTS) operation at its North American site in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The investment will expand the company’s weaving capacity by up to 50% thanks to the introduction of a new production cell, which will support growing demand for Sigmatex products in aerospace, space and defense applications.

“Over the last few years we have focused heavily on our quality, service level and technical capability,” Sigmatex CEO Paul McMullan says. “This has been well received by the U.S. market and investments like we have made here will be the catalyst for us to grow strongly in the region over the next 5 years.”

Built in 2015, the 75,000-square-foot production facility in Orangeburg is a modern, purpose-built site. It is Sigmatex’s newest and most modern plant, optimized for efficient manufacturing and scalability, featuring proprietary Flat Tow technology along with AS9100D and DNV accreditation. It is the company’s main site for supply across North America.

“We are continuing to invest further in new, innovative and proprietary technologies. And to support this growth within the region we will be making a series of incremental investment steps over the coming years,” McMullan adds. “This will enable our capacity to stay ahead of the demand curve while simultaneously focusing on quality assurance, digitalization and the use of data to drive our continuous improvement actions. The next 5 years look very exciting for our U.S. business!”
