TCR Composites Inc. (Ogden, Utah, U.S.) unveils its latest breakthrough in composites manufacturing with the introduction of TR1116, a room-temperature stable, snap-cure epoxy prepreg resin system engineered for press-cure applications. Designed to meet the demands of fast processing and higher throughput in production facilities, TCR says that its TR1116 system sets new standards in efficiency and performance.

TR1116 offers optimal curing speed, with composite parts able to be cured in as little as 2 minutes at 177°C and demolded hot for rapid processing. This new resin system is available in prepreg formats including woven carbon and glass fiber, catering to diverse application needs in industries such as sporting goods and automotive.

According to the company, TR1116’s snap-cure capability for ultra-fast processing, its in hot/out hot processing, ensuring efficient workflow, and tailored flow and tack levels for improved handling are key product features. The prepreg resin system enables optimized surface finish to meet quality standards and it also offers exceptional shelf life, maintaining stability for up to 3 months at 24°C or 12 months at -18°C, providing flexibility in storage and inventory management.

Reinforcement: Standard modulus 3K carbon twill at 42% resin content

Properties: Normalized to 55% fiber volume

Cure cycle: Press-cured 177°C for 2 minutes at 30 psi

Cure conditions for TR1116 are optimized for thermal press-curing, with recommended minimum pressure of 30 psi. The curing cycle options for composite parts less than 6.35 mm (0.25") in thickness include:

  • 2 minutes at 177°C
  • 5 minutes at 154°C
  • 10 minutes at 132°C

With its snap-cure capability and tailored properties, TR1116 is expected to optimize production processes, reduce cycle times and enhance overall composites manufacturing efficiency.
