Hannah Mason, technical editor at CompositesWorld, spoke with Adam LaGorce, CEO of Virtek Vision International (Waterloo, Ont., Canada), at CAMX 2024.

The company demonstrated its Virtek Iris AI technology, which combines laser projection with machine learning software, for use in detecting foreign object debris, or FOD, during a composite layup.

The software, which will soon detect ply backing paper, features live detection capabilities and stores detailed reports with annotated images and coordinate system data.

The system is a bolt-on to existing projection systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance in composite layup processes.
