Heraeus sells Noblelight specialty light business to Excelitas Technologies
U.S.-based photonics specialist to acquire 100% stake in subsidiary Heraeus Noblelight that develops and manufactures lamps, emitters and systems.
Heraeus Group (Kleinostheim, Germany) has signed a definitive agreement to sell its specialty lighting business Heraeus Noblelight to U.S.-based Excelitas Technologies Corp. (Waltham, Mass., U.S.), which will acquire 100% stake in the subsidiary. Excelitas specializes in photonics technology for lighting, optronics, detection and optical technology needs.
“As a leading player in the specialty light market, Heraeus Noblelight has a strong footprint in the areas of market access, problem-solving expertise and technological bandwidth,” Jan Rinnert, CEO and chairman of the board of managing directors of Heraeus Group, says. “We are convinced, that this agreement will further boost Heraeus Noblelight’s stable growth path of the last years.”
“We see potential in the union of Heraeus Noblelight’s technology portfolio with our own extensive offering in plasma and LED products,” Michael Ersoni, Excelitas Technologies EVP commercial business, notes. The sale is expected to close by the end of 2023, subject to customary closing conditions and receipt of required regulatory approvals.
Heraeus Noblelight offers specialty light sources with wavelengths ranging from ultraviolet to infrared. It develops and manufactures lamps, emitters and systems, such as the humm3 broadband flash lamp heat source for AFP, ATL, filament winding and other composite applications. Its light sources are also used in analytical measurement technology, in industrial processes such as drying, hardening or molding.
The company operates production sites in Germany, the U.K., the U.S., China and Japan, as well as sales units in Europe and parts of Southeast Asia. The company employs around 850 people.
