The move of KraussMaffei’s headquarters from Munich to Parsdorf, Germany, the last and largest of four relocation projects, has been successfully completed. Since 2018, the 185-year-old company has invested about €200 million in four new plants in Germany and China.

Covering 156,000 square meters, the new site brings together corporate headquarters, injection molding, reaction process machinery, additive manufacturing and mechanical production. Automation and the spare parts warehouse, previously located in Schwaig and Plauen, will also be completely integrated into the new plant in the coming months. Like the other three new sites, Parsdorf runs as a Smart Factory, using sustainable modern building technology.

The Parsdorf site boasts three production halls, a main administration building, four office and social buildings, two parking garages, a canteen, a cafeteria and a 15,000-square-meter Customer Experience Center.

The entire plant is designed to increase efficiency and the halls enable continuous production flow. New machines speed up processes. Shorter distances and new, modern warehouses simplify logistics. A modern, open-office approach also enables better communication between different areas. Departments are arranged in relation to one another in accordance with workflows.

“We have replaced much of our machinery,” Holger Ahlborn, senior director of operations in der neuen Zentrale in Parsdorf, says. “At the new site, our machines are on average 4 years old. At the old site, the average age was 21 years. In mechanical production, we have [also] achieved substantial efficiency improvements. In combination, all of this allows us to offer customers shorter delivery times, which are very attractive to them.”

The new Customer Experience Center covers about 15,000 square meters and enables visitors to experience the whole KraussMaffei world. They can access various areas, including a TechCenter and training area for reaction process machinery, a technical center, a final inspection center for injection molding technology and a training center for digital products.

The move to Parsdorf marks the completion  of the largest relocation projects in the company’s history. Two plants, one in Einbeck (near Göttingen) and one in JiaXing (China), had gone into operation back in 2020. The latter doubled  KraussMaffei’s production capacity in China. Among other things, machines specially developed for the Chinese market are also manufactured at that site.

At the end of 2022, KraussMaffei Extrusion also moved to a new, modern plant in Laatzen (near Hanover), a center for extrusion and recycling technology. The new site covers 97,000 square meters, 53,000 square meters of which comprise halls and office complexes. Here, KraussMaffei consistently gears production towards Industry 4.0.

Ultimately, the culmination of new plants will enable KraussMaffei to operate more efficiently, digitally and sustainably, optimally meeting the challenges of the 21st century.
