Saertex (Saerbeck, Germany) a leading manufacturer of textile reinforcements made of carbon, glass, aramid and natural fibers for lightweight construction, worked in close collaboration with the technical departments of Stadler Valencia (Valencia, Spain) to present a Spain-based workshop in July 2023 for the use of its materials in the rail sector. Stadler is a rail vehicles manufacturer, working together with its supplier, Talleres Xuquer SL (Valencia), on fiber-reinforced composite panels.

Through this intensive, four-day workshop, Saertex presented its material offerings for the vacuum infusion process. According to the company, the materials enable high potential in terms of weight savings compared with conventional metal construction and hand layup methods; it quickly become clear their benefits for the rail industry, as well.

Lamination.

In addition to the presentation, Saertex and Stadler jointly explored applications, material concepts, mechanical fundamentals and further processing technologies along the entire value chain. A key highlight to the event was a practical exercise in laminating, where each participant was able to demonstrate tangible skills.

Saertex notes that the workshop was a complete success, and welcomes any opportunity to exchange knowledge and work together with customers or partners to develop composite solutions.
