First A380 on schedule, due to Singapore Airlines on Oct. 15
The first commercial flight will be an Oct. 25 trip from Singapore to Sydney, Australia.
Airbus Industrie (Toulouse, France) announced in mid-August that it plans to deliver the first superjumbo A380 to Singapore Airlines on Monday, Oct. 15, 2007.
After a formal delivery ceremony in Toulouse, the plane will take off for Singapore's Changi International Airport within a couple of days. The new double-decker aircraft will begin the world's first A380 commercial airline service between Singapore and Sydney on Oct. 25.
Delivery of the first plane follows two tumultuous years of delays in the A380's manufacture and marks a significant milestone for Airbus as at works to regain its footing in the aircraft production market.
Total orders and commitments for the A380 are stand at 173 from 14 customers. The subsequent aircraft for delivery to Singapore Airlines, Emirates Airlines and Qantas reportedly are also on track.
