BlueWind Technology (Pensacola, Fla., U.S.), a company specializing in producing high-performance composites, has announced a new contract with GE Vernova (Cambridge, Mass., U.S.) to manufacture the WT20 wind turbine nacelle cover. This marks an important milestone in the partnership between the two companies, which began in late 2019. To date, BlueWind has delivered more than 2,000 units of the 2X nacelle cover and is now set to produce the more advanced WT20 model, designed for greater durability and higher power generation capacity, ranging from 3-3.8 megawatts. The new WT20 model is 1 meter longer than its predecessor and features thicker panels.

“The WT20 nacelle cover includes more fabric layers, providing greater resistance, while maintaining the efficiency of our infusion-based manufacturing process,” explains Jean Zolet, CEO of BlueWind.

In light of this new business with GE Vernova and future opportunities in the wind energy sector, BlueWind has invested $3 million to enhance its industrial capabilities. “We have acquired new equipment, including CNC lines, fiberglass cutting machines and silicone injection molding machines,” says BlueWind industrial director Carlos Sinhori.

The expansion also includes plans to double the workforce to 300 employees by mid-2025. BlueWind expects to produce around 1,000 nacelle covers for both the 2X and WT20 models in the coming year.

Henry Kelley, co-founder and chairman of BlueWind, says, “This project represents a leap forward in our production capabilities and aligns with our commitment to advancing renewable energy and creating new jobs.”
