Third keynote is revealed for SPE ACCE 2024
Amanda Nummy, a polymer engineer from Hyundai America Technical Center Inc., is presenting an overview of the company’s global strategies for sustainability.
The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Automotive Composites Conference & Expo (ACCE) has announced the third keynote speaker for ACCE 2024, taking place Sept. 4-6 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan.
Amanda Nummy, senior materials engineer, sustainable materials, at Hyundai America Technical Center Inc. (HATCI, Superior Township, Mich., U.S.) will present “Innovation to Impact: Advancing Transportation Through the Intersection of Sustainability and Polymer Composite Technology.”
The presentation will provide an overview of Hyundai’s global strategies for sustainability, including global priorities and efforts from a materials perspective. A highlight of the keynote will be the quantified metrics, the plan and a timeline for Hyundai to achieve carbon neutrality as well as a future outlook addressing additional anticipated sustainability regulations.
“Balancing the multi-faceted demand for sustainable content while continuing to design inspirational and efficient vehicles are essential to the Hyundai brand,” says Nummy. “Shifts in sustainable design and material selection will enable long-term resilience beyond the car.” She adds that understanding the new tools and frameworks needed to support sustainability developments across the supply chain will lead to positive change for the road ahead.
Nummy is a polymer engineer with more than 10 years of experience in automotive, hydrogen and biomedical fuel cells and specialty textiles. In her position at HATCI, she is leading the development of sustainable automotive design, material and manufacturing solutions. In addition to sustainability, her interests are in alternative energy and keeping plastics out of the ocean.
Nummy’s formal education includes a BS in polymer engineering and an MS in materials science and engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a MS in biomimicry from Arizona State University. She is a a Georgia Tech Alumni Association 40 Under 40 2023 class award honoree.
Held annually in suburban Detroit, the ACCE draws as many as 500 speakers, exhibitors, sponsors and attendees and provides an environment dedicated solely to discussion, education and networking about advances in transportation composites. ACCE has been jointly produced by the SPE Automotive and Composites Divisions since 2001.
The 2024 event’s first and second keynotes have also been announced.
