CAMX 2021 exhibit preview: Tokuden
Tokuden’s energy-efficient, environmentally friendly induction-heated jacket rolls are used in high-precision thermal processes including laminating, coating, calendering, thermal drawing and heat setting.
Tokuden (Norcross, Ga., U.S.) specializes in manufacturing energy-efficient and environmentally clean induction-heated jacket rolls for use in high-precision thermal processes including laminating, coating, calendering, thermal drawing and heat setting for high-quality films, nonwoven fabrics, paper, plastics and other materials.
According to Tokuden, its jacket rolls feature wide temperature range (precise control in 1ºC increments from 40ºC to 400ºC; designs up to 800ºC are possible), uniform surface temperature distribution both axially and circumferentially, a compact, electrical system and clean, low-maintenance operation. Tokuden displays a cutaway version of the induction-heated jacket roll at CAMX.
In addition to the induction-heated jacket rolls, Tokuden also displays an air-cooled (AC) hybrid roll. The AC system enables the roll to be cooled to room temperature by vacuuming air through the roll without the need for water or air utilities. The use of this design can be divided into two types: rapid cooling and balanced operation.
Tokuden also displays a superheated steam generator (UPSS) that can reportedly reach temperatures of 1,200ºC. Tokuden’s temperature control system can also deliver precise steam temperature control accurate to within 1ºC. The UPSS reduces running costs by saving energy and resources. Steam can be superheated without applying high pressure; therefore, piping can be simple and high temperatures can be achieved regardless of the pressure vessel or boiler specifications. Tokuden says superheated steam has a high thermal capacity per unit volume, offering very high thermal conductivity and powerful drying capabilities. It also prevents oxidation of heated items and lowers the possibility of fire.
