When it comes to corrosion-resistant fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) equipment, Derakane and Derakane Signia resins by INEOS (Dublin, Ohio, U.S.) aim to deliver reliability and consistency. Derakane’s nearly 60-year track record, INEOS says, shows through its success in thousands of tanks, pipe, scrubbers and other applications for chemical containment in a variety of safety-critical markets. With high resistance to oxidizing acids, solvents, brine and caustics, Derakane offers performance in harsh chemical environments often seen in chemical manufacturing, mineral processing and water treatment.

Embracing features of INEOS’ legacy resins, Derakane Signia modernizes polymer performance and brings value to both fabricators and end users of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) equipment. Results of using the resin include less environmental impact, easier fabrication and longer shelf life — all contained within an identifiable resin system.

For fabricators, Derakane Signia’s distinctive styrene suppressant system reduces emissions, extends permits and provides a low-odor environment, INEOS says. Signia is also designed to improve shop efficiency through easy surface preparation, increased secondary bonding and reduced gassing for faster consolidation and less process time. The resin also offers longer shelf life.

For users of FRP equipment, Derakane Signia delivers a consistent polymer backbone with the same chemical resistance and mechanical properties as its predecessors — all with better processing, according to the company. Signia also has verifiable identification through a proprietary detection system to verify the products supplied match what was specified.

In addition to Derakane Signia 411, Derakane Signia resins are available in multiple grades. For increased performance at moderately elevated temperatures (95-110°C), Derakane Signia 441 is a strong candidate for acids and oxidizers. For high-temperature applications (110-180ºC), Derakane Signia 470 brings high solvent and heat resistance. INEOS’ scientists are available to help match customers with the correct resins to maximize longevity and reliability for their processing equipment.
