V2 Composites highlights improved composite repair solution for concrete parking structures
Custom-engineered CFRP T-Biscuit enables the repair of failed flange-to-flange shear connections of pre-cast double tee beams in new and existing structures.
V2 Composites (Auburn, Ala., U.S.), carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) repair solutions provider for precast concrete, introduces the new and improved carbon fiber T-Biscuit, a go-to solution that is reported to be more simple and economical for the repair of failed flange-to-flange shear connections of pre-cast double tee beams in concrete parking structures. According to V2 composites, these beams often fail as a result of fatigue and/or corrosion.
The company emphasizes T-Biscuit’s modifications over the last four years based on recommendations and needs relayed to engineers and composite experts from V2 Composites customers. While the proprietary production can remedy shear connection failures in existing structures, it can also be used in new construction projects.
Fabricated from custom-engineered CFRP laminate, the next-gen T-Biscuit meets or exceeds precast concrete code requirements published by ACI and PCI. It can accommodate the loads and fatigue increasingly associated with shear connection failure, V2 Composites points out, increasing in-plane bending capacity by 330% over the previous T-Biscuit product. The repair solution also is said to closely mirrors the joint deflection characteristics of a standard welded connection, and reduces stress in the tee flange during reverse bending and in-plane movements resulting from thermal volume change. T-Biscuit sports a new geometry that enables installation in all currently produced double tee beam thicknesses, and accommodates a deeper depression for the backer rod and joint sealant.
