Toray (Tokyo, Japan) is showcasing its suite of high-performance composite materials. Toray’s specialized product portfolio includes Torayca carbon fiber and thermoplastic and thermoset composite materials for aerospace, defense, recreation and industrial markets.

Product highlights include:

Thermoset prepreg for aerospace applications. The Toray T1100/3960 prepreg system is an advanced composite material designed for aerospace and high-performance structural components that demand lightweight and robust materials. This technology combines the high strength and stiffness of the Torayca T1100 carbon fiber with the thermal and mechanical properties of Toray’s 3960 resin matrix. This combination enables the material to withstand the rigorous demands of aerospace environments, including extreme temperatures and high-stress loads. Applications include aircraft structures, satellites and space exploration vehicles.

High-performance thermoplastics. The Cetex PA+ TC915, is a thermoplastic material that is said to provide optimal mechanical properties, including high strength, stiffness, temperature stability and reduced moisture absorption, surpassing typical polyamide-based composites and nylon. Its mechanical properties optimize performance in high-stress and elevated temperature conditions, and are tailored to high-performance industrial applications, automotive structures, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), energy (oil, gas and hydrogen) and UAM sectors. It is available as a unidirectional (UD) tape and can be processed via automated tape laying (ATL), automated fiber placement (AFP), wrapping and thermoforming.

Ecoterra

EcoTerra.

Bio-based composite material. The newly launched EcoTerra is a thermoplastic-reinforced fabric composite designed to offer customers a more sustainable solution for structural and non-structural applications in the automotive, consumer electronics and footwear sectors. Potential applications include automotive interior trim, consumer electronic cases and footwear shank plates. Produced from a combination of woven flax fabric, partially bio-based acrylic thermoplastic and glass fabric, it is capable of serving as an alternative to fully fossil-based composites. EcoTerra can be trimmed and formed into various geometries for further construction with other materials. Additionally, EcoTerra is available in a flexible variant suitable for textile applications and is resistant to abrasion.
