On Jan. 10, AMULET — Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies United for LightwEighT — an EU-funded H2020 innovation project, launched its second open call, ending March 22, 2023 at 5 p.m. CET (11 a.m. EST), to enhance the innovation potential of SMEs through a cross-sector funded knowledge exchange. See “AMULET project funds 24 projects in composites, CMCs, metals” for first open call results.
The second open call will be selecting consortia — a minimum of two, and maximum of three legal entities, including exclusively SMEs — to lead bottom-up projects that address the development and implementation of demonstration activities around technology and systems applicable to the 12 challenge areas given. These challenges fall under four sectors (automotive, aerospace and aeronautics, energy and building), in three materials (FRPs, CMC and light metal alloys). The consortium will receive up to €120,000 (€60,000 for SME), plus funding and business training support.
According to AMULET organizers, linking innovations from one sector into another value chain can effectively result in new solutions and opportunities, thereby building new industrial value chains.
AMULET open calls run as follows:
- Application stage: SME consortia is chosen; online matchmaking events are available for each SME to meet their team; up to 36 SME consortia are invited to the online Jury Day to pitch their solutions.
- Stage 1 – Feasibility study: Up to 26 SME consortia are funded (€23,000 per consortium) for four months.
- Stage 2 – Demonstration: Up to seven SME consortia are funded (that passed from Stage 1). This stage runs nine months, with €80,000 given per consortium.
- Stage 3 – Follow-up support for innovation: Up to seven SME consortia are funded (that passed from Stage 2). This stage runs two months, with €17,000 given per consortium.
