Kineco Kaman Composites India procures 14-axis robotic C-scan cell from Fill Austria
First of its kind in India, dual robot system augments capability of this Gold Supplier, joint venture of Kineco Ltd. and U.S.-based Kaman Aerospace, to win new aerospace, defense and space contracts.
Kineco Kaman Composites India Private Ltd. (Kineco Kaman, Goa, India), a joint venture between Kineco Ltd. (Goa) and Kaman Aerospace Group Inc. (Bloomfield, Conn., U.S.), a subsidiary of Kaman Corp., has announced that it has signed a purchase contract with Fill Gesellschaft m.b.H. (Gurten, Austria) for the procurement of its DRS Accubot UT inspection system, a 7-meter-long x 2.5-meter-wide x 4-meter-high 14-axes dual robotic arm ultrasonic C-scan machine, by Q1 2023. Said to be the first of its kind in India, the equipment will enhance Kineco Kaman’s existing ultrasonic inspection capability.
The multinational joint venture was developed with the objective of addressing the growing needs of global aerospace and defense companies. The company primarily manufactures and supplies carbon fiber and fiberglass composite structural parts and assemblies within these sectors, as well as space. Since its establishment, Kineco Kaman has delivered a carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) equipment bay shroud (EBS) to Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC, Thiruvananthapuram, India), a division of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO); and received a BAE Systems (Farnborough, U.K.) “Partner 2 Win” Supplier of the Year Award for Command, Contro, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Systems (C4ISR) in 2020 and a Gold Tier Supplier Award in 2018 from the same company.
Investment in the Fill equipment is said to act as an add-on to the company’s credentials in best-in-class cost, quality and delivery for composite solutions, facilitate its collaboration to win new contracts across the aerospace, defense and space segments and establish strategic relationship between Kineco Kaman and Fill.
“The addition of this world-class NDT equipment is a great technological add to the already extensive capabilities at Kineco Kaman,” notes Jason Kosmas, Kaman Vermont. “The flexibility and speed of this equipment allows for a wide variety of product to be supported as we continue to grow and expand in this segment. This purchase further cements Kineco Kaman’s commitment to solving both current and future customer’s needs in the composite structures space.”
Fill expects to have the opportunity to set new performance standards for inspecting composite components in the Indian market. The international machine engineering company supplies high-tech systems and custom manufacturing solutions for diverse branches of industry including automotive, aviation, sports, building, digitalization, IIOT and others.
