On July 30 National Composites (Troy, Mich., U.S.) announced its purchase of Able Manufacturing & Assembly (Joplin, Miss., U.S.), a full-service OEM supplier specializing in light metal fabrication and welding, thermoform plastic production, open and close mold composite fiberglass fabrication, product assembly and finish paint. The acquisition closely follows National Composites’ strategic growth planned developed in 2019 which focuses on adding capabilities and the necessary talent to meet and exceed the composite industry's growing market demands, and has developed strategic customer advantages in both applications and geographic distribution.

This marks National Composites’ fifth acquisition in two years. Today, National Composites has plants in:

  • Molded Plastics Industries (MPI, Troy, Mich., U.S.)
  • Great Lakes Composites (Owosso, Mich., U.S)
  • Excel Pattern and Tool (Owosso, Mich., U.S.)
  • Sunrise Fiberglass (Wyoming, Minn., U.S.)
  • Able Manufacturing (Joplin, Mich., U.S.)

“We see continued demand for additional composite applications throughout a wide variety of industries. And, as a part of our plan, we strategically seek out complementary resources to meet and exceed those demands,” states Adam Fenton, CEO, National Composites.

With the addition of Able Manufacturing & Assembly, National Composites says it will not only double its production space but also add additional capabilities to its portfolio, including full metal cab fabrication, metal component fabrication, Class A paint capabilities, as well as large composite molding capabilities exceeding more than 40 feet.

“National Composites is the ideal partner to help take Able Manufacturing & Assembly to the next level,” says Craig Marton, Able Manufacturing president & CEO. “National Composites has a wealth of experience in the composites industry and a well-defined strategy for helping companies like Able maximize our full potential.”
