CRP Technology (Modena, Italy) has launched Windform RS, a new polyamide-based carbon fiber-filled composite material for production-grade powder bed fusion (PBF) 3D printing. According to Engineer Franco Cevolini, CEO and CTO, CRP Technology, the material combines a high tensile strength of 85.25 MPa with high elongation at break (9.46%) and low density (1.10 g/cc) for superior additive manufacturing (AM) performance.

Windform RS is the tenth material of the Windform Top-Line range of composite materials created, formulated and developed by CRP Technology for the PBF process with composite polymers fibers-reinforced. It is said to be resistant to damage, shock, vibrations, deformations and high temperatures; Cevolini notes that the material has even been successfully tested to -40 °C. Further, it is resistant to water and liquid absorption down to 1 mm part thickness and has been rated HB according to the flammability UL 94 test.

CRP Technology says that Windform RS generally provides enhanced functionality, offering product designers and engineers greater flexibility and speed in developing intricate parts that must be resistant to fatigue, shocks and a range of temperatures. Moreover Windform RS is highly printable for the manufacturing of parts, while still ensuring high-quality and performance.

The composite material is suited for tough, intricate and complex 3D-printed PBF parts, robust functional prototypes and heavy-duty end-use applications withstanding harsh environments. It is ideal for custom production, preseries parts and mission-critical components for demanding end markers such as aerospace, defense, motorsports, automotive, marine and robotics.
