Specialized cutting tool equipment accommodates automotive requirements
CAMX 2023: Hufschmied’s machining systems, particularly the company’s 194/195 T-Rex cutting tools and carbide cutting blades, are being presented for use on plastics, composites and other materials.
Hufschmied Zerspanungssysteme GmbH (Bobingen, Germany) specializes in the machining of plastics, glass fiber and carbon fiber composites. The company says its strength lies in advising customers in innovative, lightweight materials, highly efficient CAD/CAM processes, high-speed machining and the tools that will optimize their manufacturing processes. At CAMX, the company is particularly focusing on automotive industry needs, where energy efficiency is a key requirement, showcasing ultrasonic blades for airbags and cutting tools, such as its T-Rex line.
Hufschmied offers high-end cutting tools that meet high production speed with consistent, high-quality results and low cost. High feed rates and long service lives of its specialized milling cutters and drills significantly optimize the production of engineering components in the automotive sector, according to the company.
The company’s 194/195 T-Rex cutters are highlighted for their delamination-free cut edges in carbon fiber- and glass fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP/GFRP) materials. Coordinated diamond coatings (DIP) achieve increased service life, and high feeds and abrasion resistance are possible without the loss of quality. Chip-free processing is possible, even with loose tops and bottoms. Hufschmied says special toothing types for thermoplastics, CFRP and GFRP materials are available. Overall, T-Rex tools are reported to reduce manufacturing costs by at least 35% in CFRP and GFRP.
Safety is also an important factor. For safe and precise processing of airbag systems, Hufschmied has developed carbide cutting blades. They offer a high level of precision and safety when cutting the artificial skins used in airbags, especially when the tear edges are not visible.
