As we celebrate National Composites Week lets take some time to consider some of the ways composites contribute to one of humankind’s most sought after pursuits — the quest for constant entertainment.
Composites play a role in the devices we use including laptops, tablets and cellphones. They are used in a wide array of sporting equipment from surfboards to golf clubs to tennis rackets. Carbon fiber is used in sailboats and for lightweight bicycles including everything from mountain bikes to racing bikes to compact folding bikes.

Here are a few stories CW has reported on in the past few months that illustrate some of the ways composites contribute to keeping us busy.
- Consumer electronics: hybrid composite covers
- Carbon fiber-reinforced parts 3D-printed for catamaran
- Combining materials for better bicycles
- The democratization of composites
- Composites-intensive folding bike: Simplifying multi-modal transportation
- CHOMARAT carbon fiber reinforcement featured in Babolat’s new tennis racket

About National Composites Week
National Composites Week was organized and launched by braiding specialist A&P Technology (Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.), global advanced composites company Hexcel (Stamford, Conn., U.S.) and CompositesWorld to celebrate the myriad ways that composite materials and composites manufacturing contributes to the products and structures that shape the American manufacturing landscape today.
Go to www.NationalCompositesWeek.com for more information, and to download a Host Guide, a sample press release, a sample letter to the editor and other templates designed to help participants develop and execute events and outreach at their facilities. Use the hashtag #NationalCompositesWeek during the week to join the celebration!
