CW Tech Days explores the composites sustainability challenge
During the one-day virtual event on April 17 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET, seven industry experts will provide insight into hot topics like waste reduction, energy efficiency, bio-materials and recycling.
CompositesWorld and Gardner Business Media (Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.) has finalized the lineup for the one-day interactive webinar, “CW Tech Days: Sustainability and composites,” taking place April 17, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET. The virtual event will explore the technologies, materials and strategies that can help composites manufacturers become more sustainable. Presentations from industry experts will emphasize waste reduction, energy efficiency, bio-materials and recycling. This event is sponsored by Chem-Trend, Composites One and Mitsubishi Chemical Group.
In the ever-evolving landscape of composites manufacturing, sustainability is not just a trend; it’s a paradigm shift. While sustainability in regards to lightweighting — particularly in pursuit of fuel and energy efficiency — has long been a benefit of fiber-reinforced composite parts and structures, what is new is the demand from industry customers to develop and implement sustainable business practices and strategies to help the world meet decarbonization goals.
Sustainability throughout the composites industry supply chain takes many forms, including energy savings, waste reduction, bio-based materials use, recycling and more. Tackling each of these strategies requires varying levels of effort, investment and time. In almost all cases, sustainability has become a new, permanent and important part of composites manufacturing operations.
The event will begin with an introduction by CW editor-in-chief Scott Francis, followed by six 30-minute presentations. The agenda is as follows:
- 11:15-11:45 a.m.: “A practical view of sustainability in composites product development” — Presented by Markus Beer, group leader sustainability, Forward Engineering
- 11:45-12:15 p.m.: “Enabling circular use of carbon fiber using fiber alignment technology” — Presented by Lourens Blok, CTO and Gary Owen, CEO, Lineat Composites
- 1:00-1:30 p.m.: “Eco-designing innovative products with recycled carbon fiber” — Presented by Antoine de Turckheim, U.S. country manager, Fairmat
- 1:30-2:00 p.m.: “Conversion of plant-based feedstocks into acrylonitrile” — Presented by Corey Tyree, CEO, Trillium Renewable Chemicals
- 2:30-3:00 p.m.: “Biomaterials in sustainable composites” — Presented by Joe Luttwak, CEO, Lingrove
- 3:00-3:30 p.m.: “New technologies for bio-based and recyclable thermoset manufacturing” — Presented by Ian Klein, PhD, CTO, Spero Renewables LLC
It is $99 to attend. Register today to attend this webinar live or watch at your convenience on-demand! (An email with the recording will be sent to those who cannot attend the event.)
